Cite three detailed examples of research done in the past 3 to 5 years which focused on the NCT technical application your team selected. Include: the funding agency, the principal investigator's name, and the institution where the research is or was being conducted.

  1. The first example is research done on the treatment of storm water. It was done principally by Khairul Rahmah Ayub, in collaboration with other experts on the topic. The research was funded by the Department of Irrigation and Drainage, Malaysia. The research was conducted at the University Science Malaysia Engineering campus. The overall idea of the research was to show how to treat storm water as it is transported through a Bio-Ecological Drainage System using physical, chemical, and biological processes. The idea is that ten stations will be set up in different locations throughout the campus, and storm water from these different locations will be sampled and compared. The idea is to see which combination of physical, chemical, and biological processes is most effective in treating the storm water so that it can be reused.

  2. Another example is research done on the treatment of water in peatlands. It was done primarily by Dr. S.E. Page, in collaboration with professors from other colleges and with college students. The research was funded by European Commission Asia-Link Curriculum Development Programme. The research was conducted at Wageningen University and Research Centre in The Netherlands, Leicester University in the United Kingdom, University Malaysia Sarawak, and University of Palangka Raya in Indonesia. The premise of the research was to establish tools that would be able to be used to conserve the natural resources of the peatlands-namely water.

  3. The last example of research is research done by Principal Investigator Prof. D. Butler, Mr. A. Fewkes, Professor A. Hooper, and many others, called "Local Water Conservation, Reuse and Renovation: Combined Grey Water and Rainwater Recycling". They aim to study the viability of collecting both rainwater and grey water and rainwater pre- and post-treatment and devising a computer model for system design and optimization. Their experiments include installing prototype recycling systems in residential properties, testing their performance, and assessing the economic and social viability. Their beneficiaries include manufacturers, water companies, and water users.
