Summer Reading & Assignments: SOPHOMORES
Sophomores are required to read the 2012-2013 Don Bosco Prep Parent/Student Handbook.
English
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon
ISB: 1400032717
Incoming sophomores must keep a journal as they read their assigned book. Journal entries for sophomores should be hand-written at periodic intervals (for exmple, at the conclusion of each chapter or every 40 pages) and should emphasize well-developed reactions to and analysis of the material just read. Journal entries should reflect an evolving sense of the story and its characters and should also make connections to contemporary events and personal experience. Legibility and correctness of expression (conciseness, use of supporting details, variety of sentence structures, spelling, and punctuation) are important. The journals should be at least 20 pages in length. Students will write an in-class essay on the assigned book within the first week of classes in September.
