Rutgers University Wins Collegiate A Cappella Sing Off
Ramsey – February 10, 2012 --Following an initial a cappella performance by the Don Bosco Prep chorus, four collegiate a cappella groups performed in a sing off competition sponsored by Don Bosco Prep’s Chapel Concerts.
Drew University’s female group On a Different Note, Marist University’s male group Time Check, Marist College’s female group The Love Sirens, and Rutgers University’s coed group OrphanSporks energetically sang with percussive sound effects to tunes including “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” by Whitney Houston, “This Love” by Maroon 5, “Telephone” by Lady Gaga and a “Jagger Medley” by Maroon 5, Rihanna, L’il Wayne, and Neyo/Pitbull.
The audience voted with applause at the end of the concert and selected the OrphanSporks from Rutgers as the winners. In addition to performing “Jagger Medley” the Orphan Sporks sang “Sir Duke” by Stevie Wonder, “Torn” by Natalie Imbuglia, and Time of the Season by The Zombies. This was a coed, diverse group with many lead vocalists and rich sounds. This group was voted the winner in the competition even though the members had just recently come together as a group, and this was its first public performance!
