Financial Literacy students find a unique way to combine finance and food shopping to help the community!
During the month of November, Business Pathway students participated in Don Bosco Prep's Food Hunt. Mrs. Donegan and Mr. Sabella taught students in Financial Literacy classes about budgeting and price comparison. On Friday, November 15th, students went on a field trip to ShopRite to put their learning to the test. They were tasked to purchase the most amount of food with the money allotted to their group. This activity combined their knowledge of finance with the importance of giving back and helping others. Our Financial Literacy classes were able to purchase 4,800 lbs of food with their budgeted money. In total, Don Bosco Prep students collected over 18,000 lbs of food during the 2019 Food Hunt. All food is being distributed to the Soup Kitchen & Food Pantry at the Don Bosco Community Center in Port Chester, NY and the Center for Food Action in Mahwah, NJ.
