Fr. Timothy Zak, SDB, the Provincial of the Salesians of Don Bosco, announced today the appointment of Fr. Abraham Feliciano, SDB as the 22nd Director of Don Bosco Prep, effective July 1, 2021. Fr. Abraham will replace Fr. James Heuser, SDB who has served as Director of Don Bosco Prep since 2010 and has been named as President of Salesian High School in New Rochelle, New York.
Fr. Abraham, in his role as Director of Don Bosco Prep, will assume primary responsibility for maintaining and fostering the charism of St. John Bosco in every aspect of the educational and evangelizing environment of the school community. "It’s a blessing to welcome Fr. Abraham to Don Bosco Prep as its new Salesian Director," said Fr. Jim Heuser. "His warm relational style, his passionate creativity, and his wide Salesian experience indicate that he will be a genuine father, teacher and guide for all in our school community."
DBP President Robert Fazio added, "We welcome Fr. Abraham to our Don Bosco Prep family! We look forward to Fr. Abe’s guidance to continue our mission in the Salesian charism that has made Don Bosco Prep the home, school, church, and playground for our young men for the past 105 years."
Fr. Abraham is originally from Paterson, NJ where he attended Don Bosco Technical High School. He then attended NYU, graduating in 1996 with a B.A. in Philosophy and a minor in Psychology. Discerning a call to Salesian life, he entered the Salesian formation program and professed as a Salesian in 1998. During his years of initial formation, he taught theology at Don Bosco Prep from 1996-1997 and again from 1998 – 2000, and also at Archbishop Shaw High School in Marrero, LA from 2000-2002. He went on for further studies in theology at the Salesian Theological Institute in Guadalajara, Mexico, obtaining an M.Div. in 2006, after which he was ordained a Salesian priest.
Fr. Abraham has served in the theology and youth ministry departments of Salesian High School in New Rochelle, NY (2006-2007) and Don Bosco Cristo Rey High School in Takoma Park, MD (2007-2012). In July of 2012, he was appointed the Province Youth Ministry Delegate for the St. Philip the Apostle Province. For the past nine years (2012-2021) he has served in this position, providing supervision, support and resourcing to Salesian works throughout the Eastern United States and Canada, while also representing the Salesians of Don Bosco at the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry and the Canadian Catholic Youth Ministry Network.
"Don Bosco Prep is steeped in Salesian tradition and education, and has deeply enriched the history of our province, as well as the Salesian presence in North America," said Fr. Abraham. "It is a tremendous gift and blessing to be invited to become a member of this outstanding community of dedicated and exemplary Salesian educators, and exceptional young men and their loving families. I am genuinely humbled and eager to once again be among the Ironmen Family!"
