Don Bosco Prep has announced that Dan Sabella has been named Varsity football coach, effective today.
“We are excited to bring Dan Sabella on board as the head coach of our football program,” said Mr. Robert Fazio, Principal. “Dan brings integrity, respect and a coaching philosophy that aligns with the Salesian charism.”
Coach Sabella has most recently been head football coach at Ridgefield Park High School, where he coached this past 2019 season. Prior to Ridgefield Park, Sabella was head coach at Paramus Catholic High School (2016-2018), leading the team to the 2016 Non-Public Group IV State Championship his first year. He earned the title in 2016 of North Jersey Coach of the Year.
“Coach Dan Sabella brings with him a record of successful leadership as a high school football coach, one who not only transforms athletic programs but above all transforms young men,” said Fr. James Heuser, SDB, Director/President. “He has a history of developing in student-athletes the virtues of integrity, respect, loyalty, commitment and faith. We are happy to welcome him to the Don Bosco Prep family.”
Sabella played football at Monmouth University (1994-1998), and became a record holder of several passing records. His first head coaching position was at Bogota High School, from 2001-2007, leading the football program to its only undefeated season and State Championship. He then moved on to Paramus High School, where he coached from 2007-2016, leading the team to nine consecutive playoff appearances and back-to-back state final games.
“Coach Sabella brings a sense of discipline and structure that will impact our student athletes well beyond the playing field,” said Brian McAleer, Athletic Director. “I know Coach Sabella will hit the ground running and begin to form relationships with our student-athletes within the football program.”
Sabella’s overall head coach career record is 128-67. He is a nine-time conference Coach of the Year.
