Last Friday during Betterment Day, Don Bosco Prep welcomed Steven Benvenisti, a personal injury attorney who spoke to the Senior class about when he was struck and nearly killed by a repeat drunk driver while he was walking on the sidewalk as a 21-year old on spring break in 1989. After suffering severe brain trauma and two crushed legs that left him unable to walk and talk, Steven had to withstand six months of intense rehabilitation before making a full recovery. Steven serves on the Board of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) and travels around the world telling his story and teaching others about strength and perseverance.
Also speaking to the students was Julia Stuart, a 15-year old from Mahwah who was injured when she was pinned between two cars by a drunk driver. Julia’s brother, Brandon, is a freshman at DBP. We thank them for sharing their invaluable message for our students!
Also as part of Betterment Day, the Junior class was part of a workshop about managing stress and achieving balance, the Sophomores discussed Career Discovery with the Guidance department, and the Big Brothers discussed Habits 4 and 6 of “7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens.”
