Theater Arts Program Director Named
Don Bosco Prep is pleased to announce that Ms. Brooke DeBettignies has been named Program Director of Theater Arts.
Last year, Don Bosco Prep undertook a restructuring of Theater Arts, with the goal of integrating theater into the core curriculum through collaboration with classroom teachers and building connections with athletics. Ms. DeBettignies will continue to execute the new paradigm, assuming the dual role of Director and Producer for Don Bosco Prep’s fall play and spring musical. She will also offer workshops, not only for those already involved in theater, but also for other students who may benefit from theater experiences.
“We are so excited to have Brooke DeBettignies as Program Director for Theater Arts at Don Bosco Prep,” said Ms. Toni Bilotti Cecere, Director of Choral Activities, Chapel Concerts, Liturgical Music, & Faculty Advisor for Theater Arts. “She not only brings tremendous expertise, enthusiasm, and talent to the position, but also has education at the heart of all she does. We know the theater arts program will continue to expand under Brooke’s tutelage.”
Ms. DeBettignies is a theater director with a passion for drama education that empowers young performers both on and off stage. She was director of Don Bosco’s fall production of “Clue”, as well as of the spring musical performance of “Tarzan”. She has her BFA in Acting from Pace University (New York City) and her MA in Theatre Directing from Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts (London). She has also trained with the Shakespeare program at RADA (London’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Art), and The Second City training center in Chicago.
Ms. DeBettignies has published experimental research in improvisational theater and children’s self-concept, studying the relationship between improv and self-esteem. She presented her research at the American Psychological Association’s National Convention where it was awarded “best research”. Her manuscript entitled “Improvisational Theater Classes Improve Self-Concept” is being published by Psychology of Aesthetics, Creativity and the Arts. She plans on incorporating this expertise into the program at Don Bosco Prep.
“We want theater to be part of the educational experience at Bosco,” Ms. DeBettignies said. “Theater education in high school lets students build life skills and experience empathy through public speaking and idea sharing. I am beyond excited to be a part of the Don Bosco family!”
