ACADEMIC PATHWAYS PROGRAM ANNOUNCED

Don Bosco Prep Announces Academic Pathways Program

Don Bosco Prep, Bergen County’s premier Catholic high school, marked by over a century of academic excellence, athletic distinction, and spiritual vitality, announced today the establishment of the Academic Pathways Program.  This program further enhances its already outstanding college preparatory curriculum and provides greater career-readiness to students.

The mission of the 21st century skill-based Academic Pathways Program is to provide students with learning opportunities that enable them to explore areas of postsecondary study and a possible future career within the context of a liberal arts program.  Through a rigorous academic curriculum and project-based, authentic learning experiences, education transcends the four walls of the classroom. Students collaborate with alumni, parents, and friends of Don Bosco Prep through guest lectures, mentoring, and fieldwork, which elevate student engagement through exposure to the world outside of the Don Bosco Prep campus.

“Don Bosco’s Academic Pathways Program allows our curriculum to rise to the next level as we continue to build upon the intense rigor, relevancy and relationships for which the school is known,” said Principal Ermanno Morelli ‘02.

The generosity of an alumnus of the Class of 1989, Enrico Gaglioti, is the impetus to more fully develop and expand the pathways offered at Don Bosco. “These elective pathways share a common foundation of skills identified by universities and potential employers as necessary for success in today’s times,” said Mr. Gaglioti.

The dimensions of the Academic Pathways Program, the “5 Cs,” include Communication, Collaboration, Community, Critical Thinking, and Creativity. The initial pathways include:

  • The Business Pathway: Entrepreneurship, Marketing, Accounting, and Financial Literacy
  • The Engineering Pathway: Robotics and Design
  • The Communication Arts Pathway: Media, Broadcasting, and Journalism
  • The Visual and PerformingArts Pathway: Studio Art, Theater, and Music

“This innovation allows us to continue the 105-year tradition of academic excellence into the 21st century as we develop these and other pathways of education moving forward,” stated Robert Fazio, President of Don Bosco Prep.

The recent construction of Savio Hall, with its state-of-the-art boardroom and Robotics lab, provides new space for the exciting expansion of these academic pathways in a college-like setting on our 35-acre, four-building campus.

“St. John Bosco devised an education that prepared for life and that helped the young integrate well into the society of his day,” remarked Fr. James Heuser, SDB, Director. “These elective pathways do just that for our students today.”
