FEAST OF ST. JOSEPH MASS

Today we celebrated Mass in honor of the Feast of St. Joseph, rescheduled from the feast day in March. Don Bosco Prep welcomed the newly ordained Auxiliary Bishop Michael A. Saporito from the Archdiocese of Newark, who celebrated Mass, concelebrated by the Salesian members of our community. This year’s feast is especially important as it marks the 150th anniversary of the declaration of St. Joseph as Patron of the Universal Church.

In his homily, Bishop Saporito talked about St. Joseph to the student body, describing him as a just man and a righteous man, who responded to God’s calling as Jesus’ earthly father. Students were spread out in the gymnasium as well as in their classrooms, viewing Mass via livestream.

At the end of Mass, Student Council President Matthew Basso ‘20 presented Bishop Saporito with a statue of St. John Bosco. Keeping with Bosco tradition, freshman Damian Padilla asked the Bishop to grant the students a day off, which he generously did.

After Mass, Bishop Saporito dedicated the Don Bosco Prep Communication Arts BP1 Production Studio in DeSales Hall in memory of Robert Poliseo, for “his generous contribution of professional studio equipment for recording, editing, producing, and broadcasting”. Mr. Poliseo’s donation will help advance our Communication Arts program providing opportunities for students who are also pursuing a career in the field. Mr. Poliseo, who passed away in June of 2019, is the husband of longtime DBP colleague Susi Fecht, and father of Luke Poliseo ‘12. He is also the uncle of Joseph Poliseo ‘98 and Jonathan Poliseo ‘99. We are so thankful for his donation.

Also, many thanks to Bishop Saporito, and to our eucharistic and music ministries for their contributions in making today’s Mass so beautiful!
