Join us on Sunday April 22, 2018 as we come together for a very special day in joining Don Bosco Prep and Bergen Catholic baseball with the Challenger District 6 Little League Baseball Program. The day’s events are held at Don Bosco Prep, and enables both school’s players to join the boys and girls who are part of the Challenger program to enjoy a full day of baseball together.
The day will begin with an optional Mass at 12:00 p.m. for all Don Bosco, Bergen Catholic, and Challenger players and parents in Don Bosco Prep’s Mary Help of Christians Chapel (St. John's Hall), celebrated by Fr. James Heuser, SDB, Director/President.
The ceremony will begin at 1:15 p.m., with opening remarks given by DBP Varsity Baseball Coach Mike Rooney. Other speakers will be Jared Saldana and Jason Migatz, Challenger program players, as well as Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco, and Jim Thebery, Director of Bergen County Division on Disability Services. Corey Migatz will sing the National Anthem.
The one-inning Challenger game will begin at 1:45 p.m., with Don Bosco and Bergen Catholic players assisting as Buddies.
Don Bosco Prep and Bergen Catholic will then play at 3:30 p.m.. Challenger Players are invited to watch and cheer on their Buddies-for-the-day!
The Challenger Division was established by the Little League in 1989 as a separate division to enable boys and girls with special needs to enjoy the great game of baseball. The District 6 Challenger Division was created in 2005 to bring this very special program to children and their families who reside in, or near, Bergen County. Teams are organized around ability, as opposed to age, and players are encouraged to participate the best they can — both at bat and in the field.
