BETTERMENT DAY!

ENHANCING LEADERSHIP AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY!
Today the DBP school community held its fourth Betterment Day. Betterment Days are held during first period on selected Fridays, led by students with the purpose of enhancing leadership and social responsibility.

The Big Brothers led small discussion groups with the freshman class focusing on the DBP Honor Code and character building. The sophomores worked with the counselors from our Guidance department to discuss social choices and responsibility.

The Junior class met in the auditorium with recent alumni for a panel discussing the transition from high school to college. The boys addressed such questions as time management, how to find resources, seeking out friends and older students for support, keeping contact and rapport with teachers, connecting with classmates for study groups, and the signs to look for in someone who may be struggling. The young men shared with the juniors how important writing and math are and to focus on those areas to help prepare for college.

Returning to DBP for the alumni panel were (l to r): Roshan Dave ‘18, University of Binghamton, Ciaran McGarvie ‘18, American University, Christopher Rauchet ‘18, Boston College, Luis Guallpa ‘17, Western New England University, Ray Pellicano ‘17, University of Notre Dame, Max Minicus ‘18, University of Notre Dame, and Thomas Scharfenberger ‘18, Catholic University.

“This current junior class is just starting the process of college exploration and transitioning from high school,” said Mr. Tom DeLucci, director of Guidance. “It gives them a great opportunity to hear from former Bosco students who have had the same experiences.”

We were happy to welcome these alumni back to campus, and thank them, the Guidance department, and the Big Brothers for leading today’s discussions!
