Going Behind The Scenes
LIGHTS! CAMERA! ACTION! The Don Bosco Prep Communication Arts Pathway goes behind the scenes to learn all about TV and film production.

Students will learn the techniques of Pre-Production, Production, and Post-Production scripting, producing, filming, editing, exporting, and uploading projects. They do so while focusing on "telling the story."

ACADEMIC COMPONENT

Communication Arts Pathway students will successfully complete the following courses to satisfy the academic component of the Pathway. The following courses are available as of the 2023-2024 academic year:

  • Multi-Media Production
    • The basics of TV and Film Production.  Students will learn basic techniques of scripting, productiong, filming, editing, exporting and uploading projects.  Basic  industry standards vocabulary will be used and taught.
  • TV/Film Production and Editing: Process and Principles
    • Intermediate course to the foundation of all 3 principles of TV & Film: Pre- Production (scripting & producing), Production (filming & direction) & Post-Production (editing & final export) processes.
  • TV/Film Production and Editing I (TVP1)
    • This advanced hands-on course concentrates on the next level in TV/Firm production: Live Production & Engineering/TV/ Film; Focusing on producing, directing, filming, and editing.  Introduction to talk show and live sports production.
  • TV/Film Production II (TVP2)
    • This expert hands-on course focuses on “telling the story”, documentary/live sports and journalistic reporting/film/creative development.  Editing docs, dramas, etc.
*Students graduate the Communication Arts Pathway with a full college portfolio

EXPERIENTIAL COMPONENT

The Don Bosco Prep Communication Arts Pathway offers students a variety of experiential learning opportunities to expand their knowledge and experiences outside of the classroom. Communication Arts Pathway students will have the opportunity to participate in unique learning opportunities:

  • Don Bosco Prep Morning News Broadcast
  • Don Bosco Prep Sports Broadcasts
  • Media Club
  • Field Trips
  • Hands-on experience in LIVE Production
  • Real-world industry-related scenarios
  • Hands-on experience with industry technology
  • Q&A sessions led by industry professionals
  • Submissions to Film Festivals
  • Creation of Electronic Press Kit and Student Reel of Work
